Unexplained death, Whangārei

Police are making enquiries after a woman was found deceased at a Whau Valley, Whangārei address yesterday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the Moody Avenue address shortly before 5pm after the woman was found unresponsive.
The circumstances surrounding her death are currently unexplained, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out.
The property will undergo a scene examination today.
Police would like to hear from anyone in the area who may have information about any incidents that might relate to this death, or those involved.

Arrests made after quick-thinking locals call in

Police have arrested two offenders following a report of suspicious behaviour by some quick-thinking Canterbury locals in a Rolleston supermarket carpark.
In the early hours of yesterday morning, Saturday 18 January, a vehicle was stolen from Gloucester Street in Christchurch.
Around 3.20pm, members of the public at a Rolleston spotted two people acting suspiciously around vehicles in the carpark of a Rolleston supermarket.
Thanks to their swift and detailed reporting, Police in the area were able to identify and locate the two men involved inside a stolen vehicle nearby and take them into custody.
The vehicle has since been returned to the owner, who was relieved to have their vehicle back so quickly.
Selwyn Police would like to thank the callers who contacted Police as soon as they spotted the suspicious behaviour.
This is a great example of one way the community can assist us in combatting crime within our community.
We encourage people to call us as soon as possible with as much information as possible as soon as you see suspicious behaviour.

Serious crash Waikato Expressway – Tamahere

Motorists are advised of a serious crash on the Waikato Expressway which has blocked on and off-ramps.
It involved one vehicle and happened shortly after 7pm, at Tamahere.
There is serious injury involved and the Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
Motorists are asked to avoid using the Cambridge Road (Hillcrest) on and off-ramps, as well as avoiding the Alfred Main Drive off-ramp.
The expressway is expected to be closed for some time.

Serious crash, Fergusson Drive

Fergusson Drive in Trentham is blocked following a serious crash.
It happened shortly before 1:45pm and involved a car and several pedestrians.
There are serious injuries involved.
Fergusson Drive near Tararua Street is blocked and is expected to be so for at least another hour.
Motorists, including those heading to the Wellington Cup at Trentham, are asked to follow detours and take alternate routes.

Five to appear in court after incidents in the Kinleith Forests

Attributable to Detective Sergeant Neale Saunders, Tokoroa Police:
Five people are before the courts following several incidents in the Kinleith Forests over the past year, costing the business who manages them and its contractors around $1 million.
Police have been working closely with the company who manages the Kinleith Forests as we respond to the identified offending which has included illegal hunting, wilful damage, and theft.
There has been an estimated cost of $1 million from the offending, including damage to the companies and contractors’ equipment and lost productivity.
Several gates across the forests have been cut open to allow alleged offenders to access the sites, which have since been repaired.
Police would like to remind people thinking of illegally entering the forests, as soon as you enter the forests without permission you are committing several offences, some punishable by up to 10-years-imprisonment.
Since November, Police have arrested five people between the ages of 30 and 34 in relation to the offending. They are due to appear in the Tokoroa District Court over the next few months facing charges including intentional damage, unlawful possession of firearms, and theft.
Police are clear, we will not tolerate unlawful behaviour and will work hard to stop it in its tracks.
Enquiries remain ongoing in relation to recent offending, and we would like to hear from anyone who witnesses or has recently witnessed suspicious behaviour around these forests, you can report information to us via 105 either online or over the phone.

Fatal crash, Acacia Bay, Taupo

Two people have died after a single-vehicle crash on Mapara Road, Acacia Bay, overnight.
Emergency services were called about 11.45pm.
Two people died at the scene.
Diversions have been in place overnight while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene, with the road reopening shortly after 7am.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
