Hawke’s Bay Police would like to thank members of the public who helped them weed out a man alleged to have stolen a garden power tool from a Napier address.

Several members of the public called Police around 9am yesterday to report a man entering a shed on private property on Cranby Crescent, Onekawa.

The man was quickly apprehended by attending Police thanks to good information from the public, and he was in possession of the stolen power tool. He appeared in court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced.

This is a great result and proof of the important role communities play in helping Police.

It’s also a reminder to call Police straight away if you see anything suspicious happening, and you may just be key to helping solve or prevent crime.

If you see something happening now, call 111 with as much detail as possible, or get in touch on 105 if it’s after the fact.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
