Rare Specialty Grade Coffee That’s Eco Friendly

0

Source: Press Release Service – Business

New at Halo this week is a single origin, special aged Nepalese Everest Vintage 2018. These coffee beans are an incredibly rare and complex coffee from the single most northerly coffee plantation on the globe.

Top graded USDA organic certified beans are carefully aged in special storage conditions for 3 years before being uniquely crafted by our roasters to bring you a deep, full bodied coffee with rich spice undertones. Think about aging a red wine, the acidity lowers, and the flavours mature.

Aside from its pedigree as a Speciality Grade coffee, the Nepalese Everest Vintage 2018 is farmed on a USDA organic plot, managed ethically by one family and their team, and packaged in our pioneering fully home compostable boxed packaging.

The beans are packaged in a box made using recycled card, then wrapped in our special home compostable layer. We did away with the plastic valves too!

All coffee bags, even biodegradable ones, have a plastic valve in so customers can smell the coffee and any excess co2 can be released. We got rid of the valve and worked instead on packing our coffee at the right time so that any co2 from the roasting process is already released.

Amanda Jackson, owner of The Eco Coffee Store t/a Halo Coffee NZ, said:

“It’s really exciting releasing these rare beans here in New Zealand, even more so knowing that our farmers are paid directly and everything about the packaging is home compostable and earth friendly.

I started The Eco Coffee Store with an aim to learn more about zero waste, to find zero waste coffee options and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill/recycling plants, through Halo I’ve found this and more, initially with the World’s first fully home compostable capsules and packaging, and now with whole beans. Even without the bag valve the beans smell amazing!

In the future we will be able to have flights of different vintages, but 2018 is our first premium whole bean release.”

Runnersworld recently rated Halo as the best compostable coffee pod of 2021, saying: “If you like a quick, short coffee before you head off on your run, Halo’s compostable capsules are ideal. The coffee tastes like nutty chocolate, and has an impressively velvety texture. But best of all, the pods will break down in under a month.”

Nils Leonard, co-founder of Halo said: “The brands that consumers want now care about craft, about beauty, about perfection. But the brands that consumers truly love, care about all of these things without forsaking the World around them.”

The new premium whole beans are available directly from Halo NZ https://nz.halo.coffee/products/nepalese-everest-2018

Amanda Jackson t/a Halo Coffee NZ is a fully registered member of the Specialty Coffee Association and is a registered NZ Business, The Eco Coffee Store, NZBN 9429047709614, based on Auckland’s North Shore.

Kiwi company Spire NZ takes on the hotel industry’s challenge to reduce plastic waste

0

Source: Press Release Service – New Zealand

Eco-friendly hotel supplier, Spire NZ, is excited to launch their plastic-free hotel amenities in New Zealand. The new range, available from October, will help more hoteliers and guest accommodation providers tackle the plastic waste problem.

Room for change
Hotel toiletries have become a ubiquitous part of the guest experience, but this cheap thrill comes at a massive price to the environment. Even though many of these bottles are recyclable, millions of them end up in the bin every year. Plastic pollution is a growing concern for travellers and the hotel industry, yet few options are available to eliminate plastic.

A plastic-free solution
Spire NZ make ‘naked’ eco-friendly hotel guest soaps and solid All in ONE shampoo, conditioner and body wash bars that are 100% plastic-free. Each All in ONE bar replaces the need for three separate hotel toiletry minis, saving unnecessary plastic bottles from ending up in landfills.

Eco-good in more ways than one
Spire NZs biodegradable, plant-based formula is free from sulphates, parabens and preservatives, which saves unnecessary chemicals going down the drain and into our waterways. Plus, less water is used in the production than liquid soaps, shampoos and conditioners. Spire NZ make the bars locally in NZ to reduce the company’s carbon footprint too.

Eco-luxe, something a bit special
To ensure guests feel pampered, the guest size All in ONE shampoo, conditioner and body wash bars are made with salon quality ingredients, to gently wash and hydrate hair and skin without stripping natural oils.

The artisan hand soaps are hand crafted for a more luxurious feel. Spire NZ’s hand soaps are made using skin loving oils such as olive oil and shea butter which moisturize skin while gently cleansing it.

About Spire NZ
Spire NZ started in the kitchen of keen traveller Melissa Parker Bentley when she saw the need to find a solution for more environmentally friendly hotel toiletries. The company has stepped up its production capabilities and is ready to hit the ground running. Melissa is on a mission to help hoteliers offer guests plastic-free hotel amenities that look, feel and smell lovely to enhance the guest experience.

Going Global
To have the greatest impact on reducing plastic waste in the world, Spire NZ is going global.
Spire NZ is working with a manufacturer in the Netherlands and will be launching a European version of its All in ONE bar within the next few months.

With the single-use plastic ban in hotels coming into California and a number of other US states in 2023, Spire NZ is working towards offering a US made All in ONE bar in 2022.

Search Marketing Training to Boost Post-COVID Profits

0

Source: Press Release Service – Auckland

CEO Glen Maguire says the training courses, focusing on Google Ads and organic search engine optimization (SEO), could help businesses be more visible in the online space to potentially boost sales.

“Before the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers were already researching and buying products online, rather than visiting a business in-person. Even in 2019, paid and organic search traffic sat at 68%.

“Various worldwide lockdowns caused by COVID-19 has made online shopping and browsing even more popular, which means businesses without expert knowledge of Google Ads and SEO to highlight their business in search results could be left behind,” Glen says.

As SEO and Google Ads service providers are now faced with a surge in demand, many have become unaffordable for the average small to medium-sized business, which Glen says Clickthrough is trying to combat.

“To help counter this, we have introduced customised Google Ads and SEO courses that we tailor to each client’s requirements. These courses are run online using web meet technology and are hosted live, 1:1 with one of our expert trainers. They are brimming with practical tips and ideas and are geared towards helping businesses and eCommerce stores manage their search marketing campaigns in-house, handing control to the owner.”

At this stage, Clickthrough offers courses to any English-speaking company around the world. Long-term plans include offering the courses in other languages. The courses are suited to B2C and B2B businesses and e-Commerce operators in any sector.

To date, Clickthrough has successfully trained hundreds of companies across a diverse range of industries such as travel, online shopping, health, beauty, fashion, government, not for profit and real estate.

Stratospheric Aircraft Development Accelerates

0

Source: Press Release Service

Kea Aerospace is building a solar-powered, unmanned aircraft that can fly in the stratosphere continuously for  months at a time. The zero-emission aircraft, called the Kea Atmos, will carry a suite of imagery equipment that will be game-changing for many industries, vastly improving intelligence for applications such as smart cities,  precision agriculture, disaster management and environmental monitoring.

Kea Aerospace is building the largest unmanned aircraft ever built in the Southern Hemisphere, with a wingspan  of over 30 metres. The electric motors will be powered by hundreds of solar cells to collect enough energy from  the sun each day to enable it to fly continuously for months. It will fly at 65,000 ft (20 kilometres) in the  stratosphere, an altitude twice as high as commercial passenger jets, where there is a relatively calm sweet spot  above the jet streams and turbulent weather to enable smooth, sustained flight.

In May, Kea Aerospace was pleased to welcome Dr. Wolfgang Leitner as a Company Director and investor. He has New Zealand residency, is currently based in Austria, has a successful track-record of two IPO’s and is the  largest shareholder of a 6 billion euro global engineering company.

Kea Aerospace’s CEO, Mark Rocket says, “We are moving at a swift development pace. Over the last few months  we’ve employed an outstanding team of engineers, pilots and other personnel as we prepare for test flights with smaller prototype aircraft throughout spring and work on finalising the design of the Kea Atmos next year. In July  we relocated into our new central Christchurch premises where the first full-scale aircraft will be built.”

Aerospace is a significant growth industry that can support highly skilled, high value jobs that contribute to  Aotearoa New Zealand’s future success and environmental goals, but there are challenges on the horizon. Mark  Rocket says, “Fast-growing businesses need options to bring people in and out of our country’s borders, so we  sincerely hope that by the start of 2022 international travel options are established.”

On September 20th, Kea Aerospace was the first company to commence flight testing in the newly established  Project Tāwhaki area on the Kaitōrete Spit. A spokesperson for Project Tāwhaki, David Perenara-O’Connell says,  “The flight testing being undertaken by Kea, is part of our user experience feasibility work. We are excited about  what this means for our region, the growing aerospace sector, and we’re thrilled to be working with the Kea  Aerospace team.” Project Tāwhaki is a partnership between Te Taumutu Rūnanga, Wairewa Rūnanga (together  as Kaitōrete Limited) and the Crown, to protect and rejuvenate the Kaitōrete environment and develop aerospace  activities and R&D facilities. This project is focused on generating significant and sustainable economic  opportunities through job creation, capital investment and adjacent sectors serving the aerospace economy.

Boxfish Luna Enables Underwater Cinematographers to Capture RAW Video

0

Source: Press Release Service

Today, Boxfish Research announces that their next-generation cinematography drone, the Boxfish Luna, now allows professional underwater videographers to capture full-frame 4K ProRes RAW video at 30 frames per second. This new product feature boosts the capacity of filmmakers to capture stunning underwater imagery with ease.

The Boxfish Luna utilises the advanced imaging capabilities of an integrated Sony A7SIII or Sony ⍺1* camera recording in 10-bit or ProRes RAW, capturing underwater environments with brilliant colour and clarity. Recording is done at the surface, allowing for SSDs to be swapped for unlimited recording capacity. The remotely operated vehicle’s control console enables real-time surface monitoring on its built-in 17” 4K display and the ability to precisely manage shutter speed, aperture, zoom, focus, white balance, ISO and exposure. The new capacity to record in ProRes RAW provides the maximum dynamic range and gives Boxfish Luna users further creative control and flexibility in post-production.

The Boxfish Luna opens up new underwater depths to professional videographers enabling them to record an exceptional quality image at 1000 metres. Users are not restricted by the depth ratings of camera housings or hampered by a heavy, cumbersome system with limited mobility and short battery life. The Boxfish Luna weighs only 27kg, is easy to set up, deploy and manoeuvre, offers active stabilisation, a full six-degrees-of-freedom and can hover up to 15 hours per charge.

This advanced cinematography drone allows underwater filmmakers to shoot in unique locations inaccessible to scuba divers because of issues with depth or tight spaces. Boxfish Luna’s superior manoeuvrability and compact profile facilitate image capture of decisive moments without disturbing marine species.

Highlighted Features
• Boxfish Luna can now record full-frame 4K ProRes RAW video at 30 frames per second, giving filmmakers maximum flexibility in post-production to complement console control.
• A lightweight fiber-optic tether allows data transfer speeds of 10 gigabytes per second, enabling users to monitor 4K footage with near-zero latency on the surface console.
• Patented active stabilisation and eight 3D-vectored thrusters allow movement in full six-degrees-of-freedom, enabling the capture of underwater footage similar to aerial drones.

How to Save Power During Lockdown

0

Source: Press Release Service – New Zealand

Did you know that your electronic devices only contribute a small fraction of your power consumption? Here are some proven tips and tricks to lower your electric bills, not just this lockdown but also for the long term.

1. Upgrade your lights to LED

This simple trick can truly save you money. Most energy consultants recommend switching to LED lighting to save power as LEDs consume about 80 percent less power than incandescent and halogen lamps, and between 30 percent and 50 percent less power than fluorescent lamps.

Apart from that, they tend to last longer, saving you some bulb replacements in the long run. To maximise the use of LEDs, make sure to change the lighting fixtures at your home that you use the most, such as those placed in your kitchen, bedroom, home office, and bathroom. Another tip when looking for LED bulbs or lamps is to check the ENERGY STAR logo which indicates how much you can save when you use them.

2. Use natural light

Take advantage of free, natural light! Most work and study hours are during the day, which gives you an option to use sunlight instead of turning on your lights.

Make it a habit to turn off lights that are not being used and just find an area at home that gets plenty of natural lighting, where you can do your tasks. This way, you’ll also be more mindful of not overworking yourself, as you’re able to see the sun set from your window and know when it’s time to stop or eat dinner.

3. Use your washing machine more efficiently

Save energy (and water) by using full loads every time you use your washing machine instead of a number of smaller batches. With more time at home, you can hang them dry instead of using the dryer if there’s no hurry to use your clothes.

It’s free and you don’t have to worry about them getting rained on, since you’re at home anyway.

4. Opt for a laptop

Many have switched to a desktop computer since the pandemic happened, but did you know that a laptop is more energy-efficient and consumes about 80% less power? Aside from that, most laptops now have an energy-efficient mode, which you can enable for additional power savings.

Easily switch from your desk to your couch, all while effectively saving up on your power bills.

5. Reduce your screen time

Staying at home means spending more time on your laptop or phone whether it’s for work, school, or just entertainment. Of course, it’s to keep ourselves productive, busy, or distracted from all the uncertainties these days.

Make sure to maintain a healthy amount of screen time when it comes to your gadgets to keep your bills under control. Instead of being on your phone or laptop all the time, try going back to the classics such as playing board games with your family, making DIY projects, cooking, baking, or exercising.

6. Use power strips

Plugged devices that are turned off or on standby mode are usually called “energy vampires”. These devices may not be in use, but they still consume a small amount of power which can increase your bills. Use a power strip so you can turn off multiple devices that are not in use easier and faster, instead of unplugging them one by one.

7. Choose showers over baths

Choosing quick showers over baths is a great way to save money on your electricity bills. It saves water, too! The less water you use means the less energy you need when using the heater.

8. Take control of your heating and cooling

Apart from lockdowns, it’s also during winter and summer that energy costs tend to spike.
Use window coverings to help insulate your place and keep the temperature in your rooms consistent throughout the day. During colder months, as simple as opening your curtains or blinds to let the sunlight in instead of using a heater to help keep your place warm can cut your power costs.

9. Take advantage of government benefits

Did you know that you can get money from the government to help you with utility costs during colder months? This government is called the Winter Energy Payment. This year, qualified Kiwis can get the following:

A single qualifying person with no dependent children – $20.46/week
Qualifying couples, and people with dependent children – $31.82/week

You may be qualified for the Winter Energy Payment if you receive any of the following:

NZ Superannuation
Veteran’s Pension
Jobseeker Support
Jobseeker Support Student Hardship
Sole Parent Support
Supported Living Payment
Young Parent Payment
Youth Payment
Emergency Benefit
Emergency Maintenance Allowance.

If you’re qualified, there’s no need to apply as you will get the money automatically, along with your other regular payments.

10. Switch to a better power plan

Electricity rates differ depending on the power company and power plan. Some have variable prices, while there are those that offer low and fixed prices if you sign for a certain number of months. This is why it’s best to review your current electricity plan and learn how your power rate works, so you can utilize it better. If you’re charged variable prices throughout the day, do activities that involve electrical appliances during low-cost hours to save more.

Apart from that, make the habit of comparing power plans from different power providers regularly! You can use a comparison tool to help you save hours of researching.

Use a comparison website to choose the best power plan available in your area. If you’re mindful of your energy consumption and you follow most of the tips above, there’s no need to worry about maintaining a lower power bill even during lockdowns, or whatever the season.

These tips are brought to you by glimp (www.glimp.co.nz), a website that helps users compare broadband, power, financial products, and insurance in NZ.

National Capital Reaches $30m in Funds Under Advice

0

Source: Press Release Service

National Capital launched in 2018, ending that year with $173,00 KiwiSaver
funds under their advice. Just a few years later, they’ve now reached a
milestone of $30m funds under advice.

This means they’re well on track to reach their goal to provide 100%
independent unbiased KiwiSaver advice to 1 million kiwis. National Capital
attributes much of its growth to referrals from their existing client base, and expects this growth to accelerate.

“We expect to reach a hundred million of funds under advice soon. The
amount of money we are advising on is simply a reflection on the number of Kiwis who are making an active and educated choice on how to invest their money,” says Clive Fernandes, director of National Capital.

“Word of mouth is very important to us, so we are thankful to our clients who are recommending us to friends and family. It’s reassuring to know that people are having more conversations about their finances with those around them and are making better decisions for themselves and their future by doing so, ” says Clive.

National Capital research now covers more than 200 KiwiSaver funds,
including award-winning funds from Milford, Fisher and Booster. These funds are across thirteen different providers, another figure that keeps growing, giving KiwiSaver members more options in where to invest. Kiwis looking to see if they’re in the right fund can complete National Capital’s KiwiSaver HealthCheck.

Clients only need a few minutes to fill it out and answer questions to establish what their needs are and the amount of volatility they are prepared to endure in their KiwiSaver accounts, information National Capital advisers use to recommend the most appropriate fund and provider for the clients.
“We’re happy to see that many Kiwis are realising they have a choice in where their money is invested and are finding an accessible platform to seek advice from” says Clive. He also notes that the ease of the KiwiSaver HealthCheck is another important factor in their growth and that it encourages those who may not have thought to seek advice or explore their KiwiSaver options.
