Motorists are asked to avoid travelling on State Highway 1 at Spotswood, Hurunui District following a serious crash.
It happened around 4pm and involved several vehicles.
Initial indications suggest there are serious injuries.
State Highway 1/Parnassus Road is closed just south of Macmillan Road, and motorists are asked to take alternate routes.
