Police can confirm one person has died following a crash on State Highway 6, the Kingston Garston Highway, Kingston this morning.
A member of the public called Police about 4:30am after coming across a single vehicle that had crashed, at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu.
Sadly, the sole occupant died at the scene.
The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened and is operating to one lane.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway.
