State Highway 5 at Tarawera has re-opened following a serious crash at around 9am.
Two people were injured in the crash involving two vehicles. They were transported to hospital in a serious condition.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
Motorists are thanked for their patience while the road was closed for emergency services to attend.
