Five people have been taken to hospital following a serious crash on State Highway 1 near Puhipuhi Rd earlier this afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the crash just after 2pm.
Two people are in a serious condition and three people sustained moderate injuries.
State Highway 1 is closed between Hukerenui Rd and Jordan Valley Rd but is expected to reopen shortly.
Police would like to thank motorists for their cooperation and understanding.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway.
