State Highway 25A (Kopu-Hikuai Road) will be closed for several hours on Monday for vehicle recovery, following a multi-vehicle crash yesterday.

The road will be closed from 10am and is expected to reopen mid- to late-afternoon.

Cordons will be in place at the intersection with State Highway 25 and State Highway 26 at Kopu on the western side, and the intersection with State Highway 25, south of Hikuai, on the eastern side.

Detours for this route are significant and people are encouraged to plan their travel for outside the closure, where possible. The detours are via State Highway 25 Whitianga and Coromandel to the north or State Highways 25, 2 and 26 to the south through the Karangahake Gorge.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed. Visit Waka Kotahi’s Journey Planner (journeys.nzta.govt.nz(external link)) website for up to date information on the road closure, detours, traffic, road works and delays.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
