State Highway 6/Taramakau Highway is blocked northbound following a crash just north of Kumara.
Police were notified of the single vehicle crash just north of the intersection with State Highway 73 at around 5:30am.
Initial indications are that there are serious injuries.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
