Arborists and contractors have made significant progress today clearing a slip and vegetation that has blocked State Highway 25 at Ruamahunga after a large pine tree fell around 30 metres down the bank onto the Thames Coast Road overnight.
SH25 has been fully closed between Ruamahunga and Tapu since around 12.30am, but will re-open under stop/go from 6pm this evening. The existing stop/go, which is already in place at the Ruamahunga recovery site, will be extended to incorporate the new slip location. With lengthier traffic management in place, road users should expect longer delays than usual here.
NZTA contractors will back clearing the site and continuing to tidy up tomorrow. The road will be fully closed for short periods tomorrow to allow trucks to remove slip material, otherwise SH25 will remain open under a stop/go providing its safe.
