Wellington drivers are urged to take extra care, as bad weather is set to hit the region late this afternoon and overnight
The Metservice has issued a Heavy Rain Watch for Wellington, Porirua, the Hutt Valley and the Kapiti Coast.
It will be in force between 8 pm tonight and 8 am tomorrow (Thursday) morning. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast.
Wet roads are slippery roads, and with the rain expected to affect peak commuting times, road users must drive to the conditions.
This means watching your speed, increasing following distances, avoiding sudden braking, and using your headlights if visibility is poor.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms can cause localised flooding without warning and increase the risk of slips and rockfalls. Drivers must be prepared for these hazards.
Motorists should also check weather and road conditions before they travel.
