A group had their evening cut short after Police were called to reports of an incident on Sunday.

Counties Manukau Central Area Commander, Inspector Adam Pyne, says Police were notified of a vehicle believed to be stolen travelling on Ti Rakau Drive just before 11pm.

“Police attempted to spike the vehicle, however the vehicle fled the area at speed.

“At this stage, Eagle was responding to the area and provided overhead observations as the vehicle travelled towards Manurewa.”

Shortly after, the vehicle was located abandoned on Great South Road.

Inspector Pyne says further enquiries located four youths at a nearby address.

“The group, aged between 12 and 17, was taken into custody without incident.

“They have all since been referred to Youth Aid.”

Enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of what has occurred and Inspector Pyne says it was incredibly lucky no-one was injured during this incident.

“This is another example of some great Police work in holding offenders to account while keeping our community safe.”
