A small section of State Highway 57 in Horowhenua is closing for one day for road maintenance works to be carried out, and a signposted detour will be in place.

Next Monday (25 March), crews will be carrying out road maintenance resealing work on SH57 in Tokomaru. This work is scheduled to take place between 7am and 3pm. The work is expected to take one day to complete.

Between 7am and 3pm, the section of SH57 between Tane Road and Rewarewa Street will be fully closed in both directions to all traffic. The signposted detour for all road users will be via SH56. The detour is expected to add 5-10 minutes to your journey time.

  • People travelling to Tokomaru from Palmerston North are advised to take SH56, and get onto SH57 at the SH56/57 intersection to the north of Shannon.
  • SH57 will remain open from that intersection to the closure point just north of the town centre.
  • People travelling north from Tokomaru will not be able to travel north through the worksite during work hours. The detour is via SH56.

The following 48 to 72 hours after the closure, this section of road will be under a temporary speed restriction of 30km/h.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advises all road users to regularly check the Journey Planner website for up to date, daily information.

NZTA is reminding all road users to plan their journeys to take into account the detour, and drive safely and to the conditions.
