Police have disrupted a pair’s plans overnight with both taken into custody following a fleeing driver incident in Ōtāhuhu.

Just after 11pm, Police sighted a vehicle of interest travelling on Park Avenue.

Counties Manukau West Area Commander, Inspector Matt Srhoj, says enquiries established the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the evening from an address on Water Street.

“Police units did not pursue, and Eagle was soon overhead to provide further assistance.

“The vehicle was monitored as it travelled northbound, entering the motorway, before travelling towards Greenlane.”

Inspector Srhoj says the vehicle was spiked by Police a short time later.

“The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Thames Road and two occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the area on foot.

“Both were located in a nearby property a short time later and taken into custody without incident.”

Two 13-year-olds have since been referred to Youth Aid.

“This was a great example of our Policing teams working together to hold offenders to account,” Inspector Srhoj says.

“Our staff provided a swift response and I would like to acknowledge those involved in our ongoing efforts to keep our communities safe.”
