Attributable to Detective Senior Sergeant Ryan Yardley, Taupo Investigations Manager:

A man has been arrested and charged following a firearms incident in Taupō last week.

The man was located at a Counties Manakau address today and taken into custody.

At around 1:40pm on Thursday 22 February Police responded to the Hilltop area after a man was reported to have been walking in the area, agitated and armed with a firearm.

Members of the public were kept safe and no injuries stemmed from the incident thanks to good work done by Police officers on the day, including the Armed Offenders Squad and Dog units.

We understand this was a distressing incident, and Police worked incredibly hard to bring this man before the courts.

A 28-year-old man is due to initially appear in the Manukau District Court today on firearms charges relating to the incident.
