Whangārei Police have made an arrest over a traffic incident that took place on Mangakahia Road earlier this week.

The incident occurred on State Highway 15 in the early hours of 12 February.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Clayton says two forestry workers had alleged been followed by another vehicle and rammed.

“We have been investigating this incident, and yesterday we located the stolen vehicle that was involved in the incident in the Whangārei area,” he says.

“A man was also located at the location, and he has been arrested.”

The 47-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assault with a blunt instrument over the incident.

He is expected to appear in the Whangārei District Court today to face the charges.

“This was a frightening incident for two people who were just going about their business, and we are pleased to have made progress in our investigation,” Detective Senior Sergeant Clayton says.

“Police are not looking for any other people or vehicles in connection with this incident.”
