Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency contractors have been working hard to clear multiple slips and fallen trees that blocked highways in the eastern Bay of Plenty and have successfully managed to restore or improve access in most areas.

The situation can change at any time so expect the unexpected.
Update to affected areas are as follows:
- SH2 Awakeri – OPEN
- SH2 Waimana Gorge – OPEN
- SH2 Waioeka Gorge – OPEN
- SH2 Waiotahe Beach – OPEN
- SH5 Tumunui – OPEN TO ONE LANE ONLY – a slip is still partially blocking a section of SH5 south of Tumunui and stop/go traffic management is in place.
- SH30 Rotoma –. OPEN
- SH35 – CLOSED between Hawaii and Omaio due to multiple slips.
Be aware that the weather has also caused potholes to form around the region. Check your speed and watch following distances.
Waka Kotahi thanks road users for their patience.
