Work to repair two sections of State Highway 60, Takaka will begin next week.

On Monday 2 October contractors will start work on Waitapu Road, between Golden Bay High School and Haldane Road. Once this section is complete, they will move to a second site on Commercial Street, between Lake Crescent and Reilly Street, wrapping up work by Friday 20 October.

Waka Kotahi Regional Transport Systems Manager Rob Service says the work is part of Waka Kotahi, New Zealand Transport Agency’s summer maintenance programme and follows asphalting work earlier this year at Commercial Street.

“Unfortunately due to adverse weather at that time, we were unable to complete the full programme of work in April. With our summer season now underway we are returning to finish the work,” Mr Service says.

The road repairs will be carried out between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday under stop/go traffic controls. Drivers will need to factor in around 10-minute delays through the area.

Rob Service says there will be a temporary speed limits in place to keep road crews and drivers safe while the work is carried out.

“As part of our summer maintenance programme Nelson and Tasman communities will also see contractors at other sites across the region including State Highway 60 between Appleby and Motueka followed by Riwaka and Takaka Hill,” Mr Service says.

“We are doing as much work as possible between now and mid-December to reduce the impact on people’s journeys during the holiday season. It is certainly a busy time and we thank people in advance for their patience as this important maintenance work is undertaken.”
