A pair of alleged car thieves have had the brakes put on their crime spree following fast action by local Police.
Waitematā East Area Commander, Inspector Stefan Sagar says Police received a report of a car being stolen from Lake Road, Narrow Neck overnight on 13 September.
“During regular area patrols in the early hours of this morning one of our units has located the stolen vehicle on Kawerau Road and gone to speak with a member of the public,” he says.
“Two people have then run out from a nearby property, jumped a back fence and taken off in another stolen car.”
Inspector Sagar says Police quickly signalled for the vehicle to stop but it failed to do so, continuing through two intersections and running two red lights.
“The vehicle was quickly located abandoned on College Road and Delta, our dog unit, has located two people hiding nearby.”
Both were taken into custody without incident.
“This quick arrest is a great outcome for the victims, our community and our staff,” he says.
“Our work has been greatly assisted because the public has ensured they reported this crime in a timely manner to Police.
“We are still encouraging our communities to ensure their vehicles are secured and any valuables removed, especially overnight,” Inspector Sagar says.
A 27-year-old man will appear in North Shore District Court today charged with theft and a 14-year-old will appear in North Shore Youth Court today also charged with theft.
