A 32-year-old Motueka man has today been arrested in relation to burglaries from a yellow-stickered house in August 2022.

The man appeared in Nelson District Court today charged with burglary.

The charges relate to the theft of a large amount of valuables and sentimental items taken from a property in Nelson South that had been damaged during the floods.

The property was burgled three times over a number of days, with Police disturbing the offenders on the third occasion.

A significant amount of the stolen property is yet to be recovered.

“We know this offending was very upsetting to not only the victims, but also the wider community,” says Detective Sergeant Micaela Rolton.

“Our community was dealing with a lot following the flooding – and many people are still facing many challenges.”

“We want to reassure all members of our community that we take this type of offending very seriously, and work hard to hold those responsible to account.”
