Police are appealing for information from the public regarding a fatal house fire in Cobden early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Peel Street at 5:35am.

Sadly, one person was found deceased at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.

A scene examination has begun and Police are appealing to the community for any information relating to the incident.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was up and about in Peel Street or the surrounding areas, between 3:45am and 5:45am, or anyone who lives in the area and has information.

Anyone with information can contact Police via 105 and quote file number 220722/8955.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

Formal identification is yet to be completed, and as such no further information is able to be released at this time.
