An independent panel has approved a project to construct and operate a water storage reservoir and associated dams in Northland.
The water reservoir and dams will be built in the upper catchment of a tributary of the Waitangi River in Waimate North, Northland. The water taken and stored in the reservoir will be used for horticulture, municipal water supply, and civil defence and emergency.
An expert consenting panel granted resource consent with conditions that cover the construction and operation of the reservoir and dam.
The decision comes 144 working days after the application was lodged with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
The EPA is not involved in the decision-making – we provide advice and administrative support for the panel convener, Judge Laurie Newhook, and the expert consenting panels he appoints.
