A 43-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a serious assault in Otaki earlier this month.

In the early hours of Saturday 9 July, the man has allegedly entered a residential property with a firearm and assaulted another man.

The victim managed to escape through a window but not before sustaining moderate injuries, including a cut to the head and extensive bruising.

Levin Police investigating the assault conducted a search warrant on Tuesday 12 July, locating a cut-down .22 firearm and the alleged offender.

He has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.

He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear in Levin District Court on Wednesday 27 July.
