Statement to be attributed to Detective Sergeant Scott Rankin:

Police are appealing to the public for information about a burglary that occurred in Brooklyn, Wellington, on 13 July.

The Cellar Room, on Cleveland Street, was burgled at around 3.25am.

A red Mazda Demio car that had been stolen from Derwent Street, Island Bay was used in the ram raid-style burglary, with a significant amount of damage caused to the vehicle and the store.

Two offenders entered the store and took a large quantity of alcohol.

The vehicle was later recovered in Westland Road, Mount Cook.

The incident has left the victim of the car theft without the use of their vehicle.

The damage to the store is also extensive and has left the owner with a considerable amount of clean-up, and a significant cost to repair the store.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything around the Derwent Street or Westland Road areas in the early hours of Wednesday morning, particularly in relation to the red Mazda Demio, or anyone who may have been offered alcohol from the burglary.

Anyone with information can call police on 105 or anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.

You can also make a Crime Stoppers report online at www.crimestoppers-nz.org.
