Police can confirm that one person died following a crash on SH7 (Ikamatua Highway) near Mawheraiti.
Police were alerted to the two vehicle crash at around 7:10pm.
One person died at the scene. Another person had moderate injuries.
The road opened at around 1:15am.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
