Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on State Highway 5, Tahorakuri Forest, north of Taupo.
A person is in a critical condition after a car crashed into a pole at about 10:25pm.
A rescue helicopter has been dispatched to the area.
Road closures are being put in place and the Serious Crash Unit will attend the scene.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area or expect delays.
