Emergency services were notified at 12.20pm of a vessel in difficulty in Bluff Harbour.

Police, Coastguard and Ambulance staff are responding.

The rescue operation is being carried out in the waters between Bluff Port and Tiwai Wharf.

It is believed four people were on the boat when it got into difficulties.

An update in regard to the condition of the four people will be provided when it is available.
