Attribute to Detective Senior Sergeant Marcia Murray, Waitemata CIB:

A man is in custody following a serious incident in Titirangi overnight.

At around midnight Police were called to an address on Waima Crescent following a report of a family harm incident.

Upon Police arrival, the occupants came out of the address except for one male, who stated he had a firearm.

Noises of damage were heard inside the property and a cordon was set up around the address.

Neighbouring properties were also evacuated by Police as a precaution.

The male remained inside the address and was observed throwing items from the balcony.

The man has then allegedly started a fire inside the house and jumped off the balcony where he was subsequently taken into custody.

The man received some minor injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The male is expected to face charges and is expected to be appearing in court later today.

Enquiries are ongoing and a scene guard remains in place this morning.
