Our facilities, like libraries, community and arts centres, pools and recreation centres and our service centres are CLOSED under Alert Level 4.
There’s still plenty you can do online, check our website for a full list of our services under Alert Level 4.
Here are some of the important things you need to know about staying safe and using our services during lockdown.
Visiting parks and open spaces
Visiting your local park for exercise and fresh air is ok under Alert Level 4 but you must stay off all equipment, including playgrounds, basketball courts, pump tracks and skateparks.
If you’re out and about exercising, wear a mask and maintain at least two metres distance from people outside your bubble.
Do not stop at park benches, stop to talk to people you meet or stop to use exercise equipment. Walking, running or cycling through parks and open spaces is ok. Drinking fountains are switched off.
If you need to, you can drive to your local park, but stay as close to home as possible.
For some people, their regional park is their local park. Walk-in access for exercise is ok. Gates and car parks will be closed and many on-park toilet facilities will be closed.
When you get home, wash your hands.
Exercising with dogs
It’s ok to keep exercising your dog, but make sure you’re following all government guidance. Please don’t pat dogs that are not within your bubble.
Keep your dog on a leash at all times to avoid coming into close contact with someone else or other dogs. This includes in off-leash exercise areas.
Our animal management services
Report roaming dogs to us on 09 301 0101 and provide our team with as much information as possible about the location and description of the dog. Any dogs picked up by our field officers will be returned to their owners (we have a contactless pick-up system).
Our shelters continue to operate, looking after any animals currently in our care, but are closed to the public.
Public toilets
Many public toilets are closed during the lockdown period. This is to ensure hygiene standards are met and deter people from congregating in places when they should be at home, staying safe.
A list of the toilets that remain open for workers carrying out essential services and those in need, will soon be available on OurAuckland. We’ve increased the frequency of cleaning of these sites too.
