What are the levels of study?
Every New Zealand qualification receives a level on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) . This is based on the complexity of learning, with level one being the least complex and level 10 the most complex.

How enrolments influence performance
The nature of enrolments at each organisation influences its performance. For example, part-time and extra-mural students often have work or family commitments, which may mean they devote less time and energy to their studies. They might also have different study goals.
The Canterbury earthquakes had an impact on Lincoln University and the University of Canterbury. Decreases in enrolments can have a flow-on effect on both qualification completion and the retention of students.
In 2020, COVID-19 had an impact on enrolment numbers for many organisations, which may have in turn affected performance. Please note that the full impact of COVID-19 on EPIs will be evident in future updates as longer-term EPIs, particularly qualification completion, are confirmed.
Tertiary Education Strategy (TES) priority groups
Through the TES and our other sector guidance, we set expectations for the performance of tertiary education organisations (TEOs) . We prioritise an outcomes focus, especially for traditionally underserved groups including Māori and Pacific Peoples. Our information shows how those groups performed compared to all students.
