Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man on Thomas Road, Māngere earlier today.
Just before midday Police received numerous reports about the incident, where a man had been hit by a vehicle.
The vehicle involved fled the area immediately afterward. Emergency services attended the scene but sadly the man died shortly after.
Early reports to Police suggested a firearm may have been involved in the incident. As a precaution, armed staff responded to the area.
At this stage Police have not located a firearm.
A scene examination on Thomas Road is currently underway and is expected to carry on for some time.
A post mortem will also be carried out in due course.
Police immediately made enquiries in the Māngere area following the incident. This afternoon, Police have been at an address near the scene.
Police are currently speaking with numerous people at the address.
Our investigation is still in the early stage and detectives will now work to piece together the full set of circumstances of what has occurred.
We would like to hear from any witnesses to the incident or anyone that was in the Thomas Road area at the time.
