Emergency services are responding to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway Two, Otane.
The crash was reported to Police just before 9.30am.
It is believed smoke in the area from a suspected burn-off is causing significant visibility issues along SH2 and led to the crash.
As a result of the smoke, the road is closed and diversions are in place.
Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Higginson Street.
Southbound traffic is being diverted onto College Road.
Fire and Emergency NZ is looking into the source of the smoke in the area.
