A rare series of powerful storm systems are expected to make landfall in Western Australia over the coming days that could impact the coast and central to northern inland regions. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology have warned of intense rainfall that could cause flash flooding, destructive winds and treacherous sea conditions. The storm systems could have a cumulative impact. Western Australia authorities have asked people in the area to be aware and make plans immediately.

As part of these storm systems, Cyclone Seroja is expected to make landfall in Western Australia from Sunday 11th April (local time) as a Category (2-3) cyclone. Warnings have been issued for coastal areas north of Perth, particularly for areas between Carnarvon and Jurien Bay.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology is issuing advice on Current Tropical Cyclones (bom.gov.au) and can be followed on Twitter and Facebook. 

New Zealanders in Western Australia are advised to follow the advice of the local authorities at all times (including any evacuation orders) and seek suitable shelter. It is considered sensible practice not to venture outdoors during a cyclone and remain well away from the sea and rivers.  We recommend you stay informed of developments by monitoring local news and weather reports.
