Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 1 in the Piarere area will be resurfaced next week.
On Monday 23 November a detour will be in place for southbound traffic to utilise state highways 29 and 27 between Piarere Junction and Tirau. Northbound traffic will continue to use SH1 as usual.
Stop/Go traffic management with a temporary speed limit of 30km/h will be in place during works, to protect road users, their vehicles and our road workers. Once the new chipseal has been laid, a temporary speed limit of 50km/h will apply until the new surface has settled and the lines have been repainted.
The works are part of the Waka Kotahi annual road maintenance programme, which will see repairs and reseals undertaken to ensure the safety and resilience of the state highway network. Resurfacing is required to maintain adequate skid resistance and waterproofing qualities for the roads.
In the case of unsuitable weather, the work will be rescheduled for early December.
Waka Kotahi thanks road users for their patience while we carry out this important work.
