A Lower Hutt man is before the courts following an investigation into a breach of the Gangs Act 2024.

Police established an investigation into the breach after a tangi in May, where the man was observed wearing gang insignia in a public place.

After a number of enquiries, today the Wellington Gang Disruption Unit conducted a search warrant at a Taita address.

A 19-year-old man was located at the address and taken into custody without incident.

During the search warrant, Police located two firearms, along with about 90 rounds of ammunition.

A gang patch was also located and seized during the search.

The 19-year-old man is due to appear in Hutt Valley District Court on 31 July, facing two counts of prohibited display of gang insignia, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition.
