One man will have a taste of the judicial system, after allegedly stealing more than a thousand dollars in meat.
Two men entered a supermarket on Mount Wellington Highway just before 7pm on Thursday.
Auckland City East Area Commander, Inspector Jim Wilson, says the duo then filled up an entire shopping trolley of meat products.
“Both men brazenly walked out with the stolen meat and loaded it into a nearby waiting vehicle.
“Police had been contacted and a unit attempted to stop the vehicle as it was exiting the car park.
“The driver has fled from Police at speed, and a pursuit was abandoned due to this dangerous driving.”
The Police Air Support Unit was deployed and located the vehicle entering the car park at a Papatoetoe shopping plaza.
“Our staff on the ground converged on the car park, locating the vehicle.
“One of the occupants was located nearby, and he was taken into custody. A large quantity of meat was located inside the vehicle and recovered.”
A 40-year-old man is scheduled to appear in the Auckland District Court today facing multiple shoplifting charges.
“We’ll continue our work to identify and locate the other two offenders,” Inspector Wilson says.
“Police have no tolerance for this brazen type of offending and will continue to hold offending to account.”
