Two alleged burglars didn’t have the payday they expected after being arrested last night.
Police responded to reports of a burglary in progress on Kolmar Road, Papatoetoe just before 7pm on Wednesday.
Counties Manukau West Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Steve Albrey, says two men were reported to be on the roof of housing at the time.
“They were allegedly stealing copper spouting at the time and loading items into a van,” he says.
“Thanks to a good description of the vehicle, our staff were able to relay this to our staff on duty in the wider Counties Manukau district.”
A Police unit later sighted the van in the Takanini area.
“A traffic stop was conducted, and the van was stopped on the roadside,” Senior Sergeant Albrey says.
Two men were arrested, and all the stolen copper spouting was recovered.
The pair, aged 43 and 46, will face the Manukau District Court today on burglary charges.
“This is a great outcome, and we acknowledge the public for reporting offending as it was occurring,” Senior Sergeant Albrey says.
“Good descriptions assisted our staff in responding and putting two people before the Court.”
