NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is advising motorists that a shoulder closure and 30 km/h speed limit will be put in place between 9am and 4pm tomorrow to repair vandalism to a section of SH2 between Katikati and Omokoroa.

Responding to any kind of vandalism is a waste of limited road maintenance funds that can be better deployed to keep the roads safe and well maintained. Damage to the roads can put everyone using the road at risk.

The situation has been reported to NZ Police for investigation.

NZTA is currently reviewing the plans for this safety improvements project, including the placement of median barriers.

The NZTA Board will consider the findings of this review and the community will be updated on the outcomes of its decision in due course.
