Over 2,400 qualifications will be awarded at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington graduation ceremonies this week, as our graduates celebrate the successful completion of their studies.
Chancellor John Allen says he is delighted to help welcome the graduates to the University’s worldwide network of more than 130,000 alumni.
“Graduation is the highlight of the year for the entire University community. For our graduates, it’s an opportunity to reflect on their hard work and celebrate this milestone achievement. For our staff, it’s a chance to witness the benefits of their commitment to their students.
“I’m particularly looking forward to seeing our graduates parade through our vibrant city, which is always one of the most exciting parts of Graduation. For many graduates, Graduation is a collective achievement, and seeing their supporters cheering them on in the streets of Wellington is a fitting culmination of their journey.
“I hope the wider Wellington community will join us in taking the opportunity to publicly celebrate and support our graduates.”
This graduation marks the first graduating cohort from the Bachelor of Midwifery, which launched in 2020. All 19 midwifery graduates have passed their National Midwifery Examination.
The University will also celebrate 46 PhD graduates and one Doctor of Education graduate, all of whom have added significantly to research in their fields.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Nic Smith says this cohort of graduates is poised to contribute meaningfully to their communities, both locally and further afield.
“All of our graduates should be extraordinarily proud of what they have achieved.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how our graduates apply the innovation and creativity they’ve demonstrated throughout their studies, and to watching the positive impact they have on Aotearoa New Zealand and the world.”
