Hastings Police have today apprehended eight juveniles following a disorder incident earlier this morning at the Kmart Plaza.

Police were conducting a patrol of the area when Hastings City Assist staff alerted Police of a known group of shoplifters heading towards Kmart.

The group were located and in possession of what was believed to be stolen property, however, became unruly when challenged about their behaviour and the items they were holding.

They began behaving aggressively towards Police, resulting in multiple units attending to control the situation

As a result, seven youths were apprehended in relation to retail offending and disorder, with one further person being apprehended in relation to damage of a Police vehicle.

Police will be following up with the families of those involved.

We wish to thank the Hastings City Assist for the quick sharing of information, leading to a successful outcome.

Police have been actively patrolling known retail crime hotspots in the inner city, and will continue to work alongside our partners and retailers to prevent further offending and hold any offenders to account.
