Police have put a woman before the Court following alleged repeat burglary incidents in Whangārei in recent weeks.

Whangārei Area Commander, Inspector Maria Nordstrom, says Police were called to a residential address in Kamo on Monday morning.

“Around 11.15am, Police responded to reports of the burglary on Station Road.

“A female was seen heading towards the back of the property and was arrested by Police a short time later on Gillingham Street without incident.”

Enquiries established the woman was also believed to be involved in another incident late last month where a water tanker truck was allegedly stolen.

“Police have been investigating a separate burglary from a building site on Wanaka Street on 26 February,” Inspector Nordstrom says.

“Our investigation team had be following a number of enquiries to locate the person involved and identified a person of interest earlier this month.

“The 43-year-old woman was arrested and has also been charged in relation to this alleged offending.

“The vehicle was also recovered and has since been returned to the owner.”

The woman has appeared in the Whangārei District Court and is due to reappear on 27 March 2024 and further charges are currently being considered.

Inspector Nordstrom says Police are continuing to work hard to ensure those who choose to engage in illegal activity are held to account.

“We know this sort of offending where people’s property is targeted can be incredibly invasive for our community,” Inspector Nordstrom says.

“I would like to acknowledge residents who observed the concerning behaviour and called 111 straight away, meaning Police could respond.”
