Quick-thinking Police sprung into action in the early hours of this morning, managing to nab a burglar in the act.
Just after 4am, Police received reports of a male who had allegedly broken into a carpark on Beach Road in Auckland’s CBD.
Auckland City Central Area Commander, Inspector Grant Tetzlaff, says the male was described as wearing a balaclava and had allegedly stolen a pushbike and was looking into vehicles.
“A nearby Police unit has quickly located the man at the scene.
“However, he has fled on foot and jumped down a 4-metre wall to avoid capture.
“Despite an injured leg, which didn’t require medical treatment, he has kept running until our staff caught up with him and managed to arrest him without further incident.”
Inspector Tetzlaff says a number of other items were also located on the man, including a hammer and large hunting knife.
“Our Police teams works hard to keep our communities safe and this arrest is another example of this.
“We take this type of offending very seriously, and I hope our quick response reassures the community that we have no tolerance for this kind of offending.”
A 28-year-old man will appear in Auckland District Court today charged with burglary, unlawfully taking a bicycle, and possession of a knife in a public place.
