A driver who fled from Police in a stolen vehicle will be put before the Court.

Just after 3am, Police observed a vehicle driving in a suspicious manner along Mapau Road, Greenlane.

Auckland City East Acting Area Commander, Inspector Rachel Dolheguy, says the Police patrol unit conducted a U-turn and the vehicle took off at high speed.

“The unit signalled for the vehicle to stop, which it failed to do.

“Police elected not to pursue the vehicle and maintained long range observations.”

Inspector Dolheguy says not long after, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

“It was great teamwork and a coordinated approach that led to the man being tracked and apprehended.”

A 30-year-old man, who is a known gang associate, was charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and failing to stop and will appear in Auckland District Court today.
