The Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Office welcomes new Partner Navigators next week to boost support for under-served communities affected by severe weather events in 2023.

Like Storm Recovery Navigators, they connect individuals and whānau with resources, services and information to help navigate their recovery journey. They have the added advantage of being based in existing non-government organisations or iwi partner groups with strong ties to their local communities.

“I would like to warmly welcome the new group of Partner Navigators. They have experience, mana and well-established connections to help us engage and reach more Aucklanders,” says Linda Greenalgh, Community and Social Recovery Lead, Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Office.

“They’re from iwi partners and organisations such as Ngāti Tamaterā Treaty Settlement Trust and I AM Māngere and Global Hope Missions – each with strong relationships and understanding of their particular community. Many Aucklanders don’t know about the support that’s available, so this is an important stepping stone to greater awareness into more communities.”

Huakina Development Trust is a community organisation starting their Recovery Office mahi this week, with two Partner Navigators. The Pukekohe-based organisation is 40 years old and was established by 25 local maraes to serve Māori whanau in times of need.

“Our organisation provides various services, including a medical centre, iwi social services, health services, home care support, disabilities services and counselling,” says CEO Maria Clarke, Te Tumu Whakarae CEO at Huakina Development Trust.
