Hamilton Police have arrested five people overnight, including three youths, for two separate incidents involving stolen vehicles.

Two 16-year-olds were arrested in Dinsdale after the car they had stolen broke down, before they were seen by Police walking down Whatawhata Road shortly after 11:40pm. A 23-year-old male was also arrested.

The Police Dog Unit tracked the youths from the location of the car to where Police found them, confirming they had come from the vehicle in question.

While recovering the vehicle, another stolen vehicle was sighted in the area.

Police later located that second vehicle, with a member of the public reporting a sighting of two people abandoning the vehicle.

The pair were later located in Mahoe Street about 1:05am, with the Dog Unit again successfully tracking their location from the car.

Two men, aged 16 and 20, were subsequently arrested.

The 20-year-old is due to appear in Hamilton District Court tomorrow facing charges for unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, while the 23-year-old arrested in Dinsdale is due to appear next Monday facing similar charges.

Three 16-year-olds have been referred to Youth Aid.
