Police in Auckland City will be highly visible this summer, patrolling hot spots in the CBD and surrounds to ensure party-goers are complying with liquor laws.
The annual operation, Operation Summer, will see increased numbers of Police deployed this Thursday, Friday and Saturday night in the lead up to Christmas and New Year festivities.
Auckland City Police Senior Sergeant Shaun Richardson, says Police will patrol the city centre as well as other popular night time spots, such as Mission Bay.
“Auckland City is a vibrant, lively and exciting place over the Summer period and we are encouraging revellers to have fun and enjoy their holiday but do it safely and responsibly.
“Operation Summer focuses on preventing alcohol-related harm and public place violence in Auckland during the Summer period.
“This is typically one of the busiest times of the year for Police. We want people to enjoy the festive season and to do it safely,” he says.
Police are planning a number of checkpoints across the city as large crowds are expected at bars and nightclubs across the city.
“If you’re heading out for a night of drinking with your mates, please plan ahead of time, look after each other and have a way to get home safely – whether that’s an Uber or taxi, a sober driver or even phoning your parents.
“We urge members of the public to have fun, but take responsibility for your actions and look after your friends.”
Any time, every day, we are here to help.
