State Highway 2 Upper Hutt closed due to serious crash

Update 11:20 am:

State Highway 2 is now open, following the crash earlier this morning.

Drivers are asked to take care when travelling through the area.

Travel delays are expected while queued traffic clears.


State Highway 2 is closed between Upper Hutt and Remutaka Hill following a serious crash this morning.

The crash involving one vehicle was reported shortly before seven am – the road was closed just before 8:30 am.

State Highway 2 is closed between Topaz St and Beechwood Lane. Contractors and emergency services are at the scene.

A detour via Maymorn is available for vehicles under 4.15 metres.

Northbound traffic should take Mangaroa Hill Rd, Parkes Line Rd, Maymorn Rd and back onto State Highway 2. The reverse applies for southbound traffic.

The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating, and the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.

Road users can expect delays and should plan their travel accordingly.
