From Tuesday 14 November, the two lanes on the southbound approach to the temporary roundabout on State Highway 1/3 outside RNZAF Base Ohakea will be combined into one lane.
Currently one of the lanes is used for turning right into Base Ohakea and the other is used for going straight through to Sanson.
Community feedback suggests the lanes aren’t being used correctly. The change is being made to minimise disruption and to ensure the safety of everyone using the roundabout.
Crews plan to carry out line marking works during the day on Tuesday 14 November (weather permitting). Please remember to adhere to the speed limit and to follow give ways rules at the roundabout when driving through the site.
The rest of the road layout and traffic management on SH1/3 outside Base Ohakea will remain unchanged.
We have put this temporary road layout in place to ensure traffic can keep moving steadily while construction of the permanent, double-laned roundabout is underway. The temporary road layout also keeps crews safely separated from state highway traffic.
We appreciate the current work creates disruption and we want to thank the community and everyone who uses this stretch of highway for their patience during this time.
