Two men were arrested in West Auckland last night after a fleeing driver incident across the city.
A police unit signalled for the driver of a speeding vehicle to stop on Auckland’s Southern Motorway (SH1) at around 8.22pm, but the vehicle failed to do so. Police tracked the vehicle along the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Henderson, where it stopped and three people took off on foot.
Waitematā West Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Damian Albert says the offenders went into an address inside a large residential building.
“At around 8.53pm, Police put cordons in place and eventually two of the men were extracted with the aid of Police dogs and taken into custody.”
Police recovered a loaded shotgun, ammunition, and illegal drugs from the address.
Two men, aged 30 and 59, face multiple charges relating to firearms, theft, driving and bail breach offences.
Both are due to appear in the Waitākere District Court today.
“This is another example of some great Police work in removing firearms out of the hands of criminals and holding them to account while keeping our community safe,” Senior Sergeant Albert says.
“Our communities can help us respond by reporting incidents – where there is criminal or anti-social behaviour occurring right now, call 111.”
Other information can be reported to Police on 105, or anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
