A group of New Zealand MPs will make up a parliamentary delegation during the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) exchange to Washington DC, and New York State, including Albany and New York City, in the United States of America. While there, they will visit the New Zealand Embassy, the US Department of State, and US Congress, meet with local and federal elected representatives, and learn from local private sector innovators.

The New Zealand delegation, led by Tim van de Molen MP (National), will comprise of Camilla Belich MP (Labour), Nicola Grigg MP (National), Dan Rosewarne MP (Labour), Sam Uffindell MP (National), and Arena Williams MP (Labour).

As a part of the exchange, an ACYPL delegation from the United States visited New Zealand in 2022 to learn about our political and cultural dynamics, and about how the electoral system works in New Zealand.

“Since 2015, the participation of members of New Zealand’s parliament in the ACYPL exchange has been greatly rewarding. This programme provides an opportunity to gain and share knowledge and ideas with our counterparts from the United States, at both federal and state levels,” said Rt Hon Adrian Rurawhe, Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives.

“After a pause in outgoing delegations during the pandemic, it’s great that our members are returning to the ACYPL. I am optimistic that this year’s delegation will represent New Zealand well on the global stage, and return with valuable knowledge and insight that will assist in their work at Parliament.”
Each year, ACYPL brings together young political leaders from around the world to learn and exchange knowledge about the political and cultural dynamics of other countries. The ACYPL exchange programme between New Zealand and the United States ran annually since 2015 until the event was put on hold during the Covid-19 pandemic. This upcoming trip will mark the first time New Zealand members have taken part in the exchange since 2019.

This visit runs from 3 to 11 May 2023
